Configuring Windows '95 for Goldinc Dialup Networking Without the benefit of the Internet Setup Wizard - Double click on the My Computer icon. - In the My Computer window, double click on Control Panel. - In the Control Panel window, double click on Add/Remove Programs. - In the Add/Remove Program Properties window, click on the Windows Setup tab. Put a check in the box next to Communication and make sure its highlighted. Click on the Details Button. - In the Communications window, put a check in the box next to Dial-Up Networking box. Click on OK. - Back in the Add/Remove Program Properties, click on OK. It should now copy the dial-up network software from the Windows 95 disk(s) to your computer. - Back in the Control Panel window, double click on the Network icon. Click on the Add button, and double click on Protocol. Now highlight Microsoft and a list of protocols should come up on the right side of the window. Double click on TCP/IP. Now click on OK. - Restart your computer. - Close the Control Panel window. - Back in the My Computer window you should now have an item called Dial up Networking. - In the Dial Up Networking window, double click on Make New Connection. - In the Make New Connection window, type in Goldinc for name of computer you are dialing. Click on Next. - Leave Area Code blank if you are a local call to Goldinc. Type in the local Goldinc number in the telephone number box, 8645676 (Harrison Count) or 3950590 (Hancock County) or 3927409 (Jackson County) - Click on Next. Now click on Finish. - You should now have a Goldinc icon on the Dial Up Networking window. Right-click on it and choose Properties. - A window titled Goldinc should now pop up. Click on Server Type. - Server Types window should now pop up. Type of server should be PPP: Windows 95, Windows NT 3.5, Internet. The only boxes that should be checked are logon the network and TCP/IP. - Now click on TCP/IP settings. Now in the TCP/IP Settings window. Server assigned IP address should be checked as well as Specify name server addresses. Primary DNS should be 63.164.70.2 Secondary DNS should be 63.164.70.3 Both WINS boxes should be 0.0.0.0 Use IP header Compression and use default gateway on remote network, should be checked. Click on OK. - Back at Server Types window, click on OK. - Now click on Configure. A window with your modem in type as the title will pop up. Choose the Options Tab. Check two boxes: Bring Up Terminal Window After Dialing and Display Modem Status. Click on OK. - Back at the Goldinc window, click on OK. - Now back at Dial Up Networking window, double click on the Goldinc icon. - In the Connect to window, User name should be your Goldinc login username. Type in your Goldinc password. - Now click on Connect. - If all goes well, your modem should dial and you will get a terminal window with a login prompt. Type your username, enter, then your password and enter. When you see the 'Annie:' prompt type ppp then the enter key, then click Continue. The garbage characters indicate that the Goldinc side has switched to PPP mode, and when you press Continue, you've told Windows '95 that it can switch to PPP mode also. **** You are now ready to surf the net--launch the browser of your choice (including Internet Explorer!) **** Have fun! |
